My dad gave himself diabetes and he refuses to workout in any way shape or form. I offered to buy him an exercise bike and a tv to place in front of it and he said he would never use it. The quality of his life is in decline and he contributes to it by inaction and apothy. My mother is wheelchair bound because of MS and who is going to take care of her if my father strokes himself out? At least he has improved his diet.

That is some bitter stuff you and your family has to deal with. I guess the only thing you can do then is stay healthy yourself. MAybe your mother having MS and your then your dad getting cancer was just too much for him - there is always only so much a person can take before he starts giving up. And diseases like MS don't let room for a lot of hope. There always comes a point when you ask yourself: "What am I fighting for?" and if you don't find one good reason - you quit. No one fights to fight - you fight because you see a chance to win. Once you have quitted there is almost no way to get back to fighting.
