This is qoute from original post, I just need little clarification.
Standard plates must be elevated so that distance between floor and bottom of the barbell is 8 inches or 8.5 inches?
I am asking because 8.5 + 8.5 + 1 inch barbell=18 inch plate. Maybe he meant it by observing the plate 8 + 8 + 2 inch hole?

Sorry if it's not clear, i measured the distance under the gripping area of an olympic barbell with 45's was 8" so take that to mean if you were 8" tall you could walk under the bar where you would be holding it. If thats still not clear then let me know and i will try and take a picture or something to demonstrate.
