This isn't really a secret but is pretty funny. One of my good friends is a probation officer and he and his coworkers use myspace to check up on their wards. I'm sure a lot of HR offices do it as well.
FYI if a condition of your probation is no drugs or alcohol it's probably best not to post pictures of yourself on the net with a beer and a blunt in your hand with the caption "Gettin Faded New Years Eve '08".
