No, aikido isn't all that practical in my opinion. Sure, there are SOME and I stress SOME things in it that work, but BJJ, judo, wrestling, sambo are all much, much more effective and practical grappling arts.

By the way, aikido isn't a striking art. The only striking that is generally ever done is aikido are striking feints that are used to elicit a response from your opponent to take advantage of as an openning.

In the amount of time it would take you to actually make aikido effective, you could spend the same amount of time in another grappling art and become even better.
