In my limited experience to use the MT clinch you have to first soften up your opponent a bit. If he is too fresh you might have a bit of trouble locking it in. Thats when the trouble starts because he will have the power/presence of mind to a) hit you with hooks over your arms. b) pull back/lift with a lot of power as you launch a knee.

IMHO,Gotta make them a bit tired or dazed first, then it becomes a great weapon.
