Did Andy Hug study Kyokushin? Yes.
But when he was fighting in K-1 did he TRAIN in kyokushin? I seriously doubt that, because you would have train differently given Kyokushin rules, just like if I'm training for boxing I would duck down and go for body shots all day long because my boxing opponent will never kick me and I don't need to worry about eating a roundhouse to the face if I go low for body punching. Similarly I'll be sideways and stick my leading foot out all day long, because my opponent will never go for a takedown.
Similarly if a Kyokushin fighter were training for KK he would never practice parrying, blocking, and slipping jabs and straights because punches to the face would never come. It would be a gigantic waste of time and he'd probably lose the Kyokushin fight spending time practicing these useless techniques. But I'm sure they'd be training those techniques if they were preparing for a K-1 match, lest they get KTFO!

Andy Hug wasn't allowed, because at that time you were expelled from the organisation for going pro. But he said he wanted to go back as soon as he retired, what sadly never happened...
And believe me, they can go back and do knockdown. Filho for example...
You could say the same about Boxing, MT whatever... But I know, MA bashing is cool....
If that what you try to said would be true, there would be just Kickboxers in K1 and Vale Tudo Guys in MMA. But it's not that way, because you can crosstrain. Every MA has it's specific rulesets (which are needed in my eyes) and trains for it.
