Professor: I can write a book on this. For one thing we rarely read your final paper or even grade your finals, unless you are a very close case, which means you are between grades. It's not that we don't care but that they do NOT give us enough time to turn the grades in. You might have even noticed that if you were doing great in a class, but bombed the final, your grade seems unaffected.
Here's another tip for college, and it's linked to the first one. You are much better off getting an A in the midterm or the first paper, and then slowly declining, than doing crappy at the beginning and working your way up. They say first impressions are key, and this is true in a class. If a student writes a kickass first paper Im likely to give them the benefit of the doubt all quarter because I see how well they can do. If a student does a crappy first paper, I might even be suspicious if the next one or last one is amazing, and will pay careful attention to the writing.
Also, we do talk to each other about mutual students, especially outstanding students or weird ones.
Also, you know annoying people in your classes? they annoy us too.

bartender: if you're drunk, you're getting watered down drinks. If you're really drunk, you are getting ones with almost no alcohol, and you will not know the difference.
there are a million things we can do to your drink if you piss us off. NEVER piss off or become belligerent with a bartender. Believe me, I'll stir your martini with my dick and watch you drink it if you mess with me.

About the professor one, I can agree with this. I did really well in my philo class for the first half (all A's on tests and papers) and then just totally dismissed the second half of the class. I handed in my final paper (25% of our final grade), which wasn't even checked for grammar, and I got an A on it. The class was huge, and I doubt the teacher even knew if I attended or not (I didn't usually). Still, thanks, Prof.
I also scored an A in my 2d design class for ONE project. All of my projects were legit, but he didn't even bother grading them. Then I had the same prof for life drawing and he gave me an A without out even reviewing my portfolio for that class. He was cool as shit, too.
