Hmm, I never thought of that.
You're right, tennis has an interesting model.. It's not like UFC and it's not like boxing -- it's all tournaments.
The only problme is that fighters would need lots of recuperation time between stages of a tournament to heal their injuries and broken bones (unlike tennis players), so the tournaments would drag on for months and in the end, you would still have one big tourney.
