engineering job hunting advice: call backs

I applying for entry-level chemical engineering jobs. Usually, a week after I turned in my application, I call back to tell them I am following up on the status of my application and to answer any questions they may have. Most have told me that it's been sent and is being reviewed. After that, I have not heard anything. For some jobs, its been 2 weeks since my follow up call.

2 questions:
-Does my first follow up call seem alright?
-Should I do another follow up call for those who have not responded to me even long after my first follow up call? I mean, the job qualification said 'entry-level, B.S. Chemical engineering required', I seem to fit that bill perfectly.

Man, this is so stressful, its my future!!!
