Not entirely true. You have to qualify for it based upon a number of factors, you dont just send in a Fafsa, then the government cuts you a check, or says just show up to scvhool we'll pay for it! It depends upon when you apply as well as a number of other things. If you live with your parents, they are required by law to take your parents income into account, even if your parents swear to not pay a cent of it. Thus, you could end up with little or no aid even if your parents dont help you at all.

Nowadays, financial aid has taken a huge cut, which is why people have to take out private loans in addition to anything they get from the government.

No thats not what I meant. The stats show that the overwhelming majority of people on college campuses, especially ranked ones are their not because of their scholastic aptitude but becasue their parents financial background helped them get there.
