By the time you reach blue belt level, especially under Rickson, you should be able to pull off armbars and simple chokes with and without a gi. I was also disappointed with McCulley's grappling abilities as well. Especially for how long he has trained with Tito and Team Punishment. Both guys were disappointing for this level of MMA competition.

It's much more difficult to pull off any sub when you're being punched in the face and smashed up against a fence. Rickson fought around ropes and when stuffed, threw them over. Hardonk is probably a new blue belt with little experience using it in combat situations. Give him time. He's got great standup but no take-down defense, when he can defend and spend more time working from his back in combat simulation, we'll see him become a stonger force in MMA.
