I'm with you on this one. 12 gauge suits me and my girlfriend just fine. It requires less skill than a sword or bat and has excellent stopping power.
Also got a Kukri just in case someone manages to get into the bedroom without my knowing, and I don't have time to rack a shell. Kukris are easier to used in confined spaces and VERY hard to parry against. Not likely that I'll have to use it, but backup never hurts.
