That difference may also be due to the fact that many posters on the boxing forum are old enough to have a valid drivers license.

Seriously, though, one justification for the lack of perspective on the MMA forums is that there is such a limited history in MMA. Boxing fans don't get as overwhelmed by a guy like Wladamir Klitschko or Sam Peter the way MMA fans get on the Mirko Cro Cop or Mark Kerr bandwagons. All those guys look like unstoppable forces against their early opponents, but there is enough boxing history to know that no one is unbeatable and so educated fans reserve judgment until they've seen someone fight against multiple styles and against fighters with experience and comparable skill. 10 years from now MMA fans might be asking in the next phenom who's knocking guys out in 30 seconds is going to be able to win a fight if it goes to decision by saying "remember when we thought Vitor Belfort would never have a fight go to the second round".
