As for the OP's question, professional boxers aren't the only ones who suffer brain damage. My old boxing coach fought as an amateur and ended up punchy and lost his hearing.

I would have to say no to the MT question.
The fact is with MT fighting and sparring, your taking shots all over the body, maybe 60% of shots go to the head, the rest go to the body and legs.
Also, boxing you take hundreds and hundreds of shots in a fight, whereas with a lot of Thai boxing fights you might really only get hit a few times (and then might get knocked out, but a single KO shot IMO is much much less damaging then lots of smaller shots)
