If you can get a hold of Fruity Loops you might enjoy that. I dont recommend downloading anything for free, because well...thats just illegal. But if you have $150-$400 to spare, i suggest FL. My brother had it running for a while. He only did hip hop beats but he was pretty good at it. I just fooled around with it to make DnB, but i didnt have the patience for it. Its some in depth software.
I had the old Music Generator for the PS1 as well back in the day, i had damn near a whole Cd's worth of songs made. For a PS1 game, it was incredibly detailed with what all you could do with the single notes. I loved that game.
