The political wing knows where the Isreali solider is (It's not a whacky conspiracy. Most Hamas members admit he is around but say they have no idea where he is.) and better release him.

If the kid turns up in a video having his head sawed off by Hamas militants then the Isreali army will go in and blast all instiutions in Gaza, terroists homes and their families homes, and various other things causing Gaza to descend into total chaos which means the militant groups will start fighting each other again. Right now they have a controlled corrutpion and they did have some cover from having their leaders assissinated, until of course recent days... really, Hamas has everything to lose right now.
I think there may have been a miscomunication. I agree that Hamas is facing possible extinction and soon.

Israel

My concern is that what will the price be if everything falls apart. They got to realise that taking out a government is a big step in probably the wrong direction. If this happens it will prove that they're not really all that interested in peace with their neighbour.

Palestine

If they do have control of whoever has the soldier then they better dump him in the closest local 7/11 parking lot with some quarters to call home base and quick. If this escalate the Israeli's will be all over the Palestinians civilians. The Palestinians are still pretty much civilians facing a advanced army and if that army goes in there full tilt boogie then lots of holes will need digging.

I still wouldn't be surprised if there is no missing soldier. It sure as hell wouldn't be the first time a government has invented a crisis to escalate their plans. The history books a full of such events.
